'Electro' remix of Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"

Ok, this is something different! An 'electro' remix of Green Day's Boulevard Of Broken Dreams:

Billie Joe letter to fan from 1990? (Not the one you're thinking of... earlier!)

This interesting piece turned up on a local radio station website Radio1045, for the Philadelphia, PA area. Here's what they say about it:

"A typed letter from Billie Joe Armstrong himself to a fan from way back in the early days of Green Day in 1990 has hit the web. The letter explains some of his lyrics and even has the Green Day frontman asking the fan for a place to play near his hometown. Oh how times have changed. (via Letters of Note)"

The signature on the letter is very different to the one Billie Joe uses today, but it may well have evolved over the years. It does look a genuine piece and if so, it's really cool to see how things were back then! It has a very Lookout! feel to it, i think. Perhaps someone can verify this is in fact probably genuine. @LarryLivermoreperhaps?

You can read the whole thing over at Radio104.5 and share it, it's well worth checking out!

Music Video for "Wootton Bassett Rocks" cover of Wake Me Up When September Ends, in aid of military charities

Attention Green Day fans! We need your help in spreading the word about the upcoming charity single release of Wootton Bassett Rocks cover of Green Day'sWake Me Up When September Ends. The good people leading this project, which aims to raise £1million to aid military charities that support fallen and returning war heroes in England, have kindly sent us the link to their as yet unreleased music video and song.

Watch it below. It's really great and displays beautifully the community spirit behind this initiative:

How can you help? We need to make as many people aware of this as possible, and by posting links to the video on your facebook/twitter pages etc., you can help to do this. You can do that simply by 'liking' this post and/or 'tweeting' it! You should also follow the charity on Twitter (@wbcharitysingle) and 'like' them on Facebook. You can also help by donating to the charity at JustGiving.com

This is a really great project, for a cause that people all over the world can relate to at this time where war and conflict unfortunately has a dominant place in our lives. By getting behind Wootton Bassett Rocks, we can help to take steps towards helping the people directly affected by such events.

The single is set to be released on iTunes on 28th November, so look out for more updates as the week continues. Thank you for your support!

The best use ever of Green Day's cover of "I Fought The Law"

I found this video via Reddit today, heard the music behind it, and it was just too awesome not to share here.

Green Day recorded this for a superbowl commercial that Pepsi did around 2004, I believe. It's a cover of The Clash's version, which was a cover of the original by the Bobby Fuller Four from the 1960's. A cover of a cover (...Inception).

MTV "Fan Army Battle" Final - Green Day "Idiots" vs MCR "Killjoys"

Green Day fans ("Idiots") have made it to the final of MTV's "Fan Army Battle" in a touch looking face-off against My Chemical Romance fans ("Killjoys").

It's an interesting battle as the fans generally have a mutual respect for each other's respective band, as do the bands themselves. But of course, we want the "Idiots" to prevail here! We're currently behind at the moment, about 65% to 35%.

Although the poll is in spanish, it's easy to follow and understand. Let's show everyone again that Green Day has some of the best fans!

Head on over to vote here and share it on facebook and twitter (below) with your Green Day friends to spread our chances!

Note: Voting is NOT unlimited. It appears you can vote a number of times, but then there is a "cooling off" period where you have to wait a while before you can vote again.

Go Idiots!

Spin review of Green Day show in Austin, TX

Wanna to read some more about Green Day's latest surprise show in Austin, Texas last Thursday? If you haven't seen it already, Spin online posted a review of "The Green Day Quartet" (in Billie Joe's words!) performance at Red7 Club in downtown Austin.

"On Thursday night, and well into Friday morning, punk storytellers Green Day squeezed into Austin dive Red 7 (capacity: 500) for an intimate show that featured old favorites, drunken covers and nearly an album's worth of early listens to new songs."

The piece goes on to talk about the set Green Day played and the new sound of the new songs. You can read the full review over at Spin online.

There's also a review from Caitlin Deweese, who got to attend the show, over at The Examiner.

Joshua Kobak announced to play St. Jimmy in the upcoming American Idiot Musical tour

Late last month, most of the touring cast for the American Idiot musical was announced minus one key character, St. Jimmy. Speculation started to fly around that maybe Billie Joe was going to reprise the role, but this past week AmericanIdiotTheMusical.com announced that Joshua Kobak would be playing the role.

Kobak isn't new to the Idiot family though, he was apart of the original Broadway cast of American Idiot as a "swing" and an understudy to St. Jimmy. Apart from American Idiot Kobak has also been in RENT, Spider-Man, Tarzan, along with quite a few others

I love how there are members of the Broadway cast who have joined the cast of the musical tour so we know the the show will stay in good hands. Other returning actors to American Idiot include Van Huges playing the lead role ofJohnny, Leslie McDonel, playing the part of Heather and Krystina Alabado as an ensemble.

You can find out all the details for the upcoming Musical tour over on AmericanIdiotTheMusical.com by clicking here.

Let's play a game: Where is Green Day playing on Thursday?

Billie Joe just sent out the following tweet:

"Green Day show this Thursday!
Hint, it's not in California or New York..."

Exciting news! Not in California or New York, so that only leaves 48 other states in the US, and every other country in the world.

Someone mentioned on Twitter that they were sitting next to Billie Joe on a flight going to Austin, TX yesterday. And someone else on Twitter mentioned that they saw the whole band there. But we haven't confirmed with the band or anyone else that they intend to play a show there. That's all we have until we get more info or confirmation.

For now, feel free to keep up with news on our forum, where people much more capable than me will keep digging.

Great photos from the recent San Francisco show on GreenDay.com

The official site has posted another 18 new photos, this time from the most recent surprise show at the Mezzanine in San Francisco, on 1st November. If you haven't seen them yet, go check 'em out - they're really good!

In other news, Mike Dirnt was pictured at Nonito Donaire's boxing match at Madison Square Garden in New York over the weekend, which you can see atThe Examiner. Green Day were also in Manny Pacquiao's dressing room before his fight.

"On This Week..." - International Superhits celebrates it's 10th anniversary!

On this week... Green Day's "International Superhits" was released on 13th November, 2001 as a compilation of all Green Day's singles from Dookie through to and including Warning. The album also includes previously unreleased songs Mariaand Poprocks and Coke. As well as a CD release, there is also "International Supervideos" - a collection of all the (awesome) music videos that accompanied the Green Day singles.

At the time, some saw this release as a signal of a possible demise for Green Day, with the subsequent album releases after breakthrough album Dookie being more modestly received, both critically and commercially. On top of that, best hits albums are often seen as an acknowledgement by a band (or act), that they've reached their commercial peak and so they "mail in" a best hits compilation, rather than continuing to be creative and release new material. Little did we all know (and quite likely that includes Green Day) that the band were a couple of years away from smashing their way back into mainstream success again with their career defining album, American Idiot.

Having said that, International Superhits/Supervideos is (i consider them as one) a must have for any Green Day fan's music collection. In one album, it spans the career of the band to 2001 with all the classics that you would associate with Green Day at that time. I could name them all, they're all worthy of a mention, so i'll merely point you in the direction of our music section where we have the full track listing, along with lyrics to all the songs and links to their videos. Go geek out on International Superhits!

- greendaytone. Go on and leave your thoughts on the album in the comments! :)

Last Year:

Some pictures from Green Day's studio were released. Check this news story to see them.

Green Day's performance in Munich from 2009 at the Olympiastadion was shown in cinemas across Europe, giving fans another way to enjoy the band's live show. It was an interesting experience, one which i got to enjoy and comment on here.

Green Day officially announced the upcoming release of a live album from their recently finished 21st Century Breakdown tour.

In 2009:

Live music videos for Murder City & Last Night On Earth were released. The performances were taken from Green Day's European Tour (1st leg) shows in Birmingham and Zurich, respectively.

Here Jimmy's Europe Tour Recap from 2009 as Green Day played their final shows of that particular leg of the tour in Munich, Vienna and Zurich.

Stay tuned for another "on this week..." - next week!

'Wake Me Up When September Ends': 10 Fun Ways To Commemorate Green Day's Hit

This MTV article is from September, but somehow managed to elude us all here! It's well worth a look back at though. It talks a bit about the meaning of the song, how it's been interpreted by people and how it's evolved over time to symbolise many different things. MTV then give you "10 fun ways to commemorate" the hit song.

"Because of the song's release date, it's most commonly thought to be about the events of 9/11, but band member Billie Joe Armstrong clarified the song was actually written as a memorial to his father, who died of cancer in September 1982.

Later, the song was dedicated to the deceased guitarist Johnny Ramone of the Ramones, who died in September 2004."

You can head on over to MTV to check out the full article and list. The first couple are probably the best, in my humble opinion:

"1. Blast the song on repeat with loud speakers from your window. Depending on the street you live on, you might get away with this for anywhere between 1 to 17 plays.

2. Host a party and make a playlist on your iPod consisting entirely of this song. When the annoyed guest gets restless of hearing it on repeat, tell him you'll put it on shuffle."

Thanks to desertrose for belatedly posting this on our forum!

Check back for another MTV "battle of the fans" that Green Day fans will be involved in over the next few days...

Interview with Jesse Malin about recording with drunk Green Day at 6am for "Rodeo Queens"

This interview with Jesse Malin took place at Little Steven's Underground Show last month where he talks about recording with Green Day. Last year they recorded "Depression Times" with Jesse which they released under band name "Rodeo Queens." Jesse talks about Green Day showing up at the studio at 6am drunk and putting this together

"Wootton Bassett Rocks" cover Wake Me Up When September Ends for fallen war heroes

A project called Wootton Bassett Rocks has been set up to release a charity single and video covering Green Day's Wake Me Up When September Ends, to honour fallen heroes and in aid of military charities.

Royal Wootton Bassett is a small market town in Wiltshire, England and was recently awarded its Royal status to mark the end of an era of repatriations through the town.

The project founder and leader Tracey Rogers explains the idea behind the project:

"My brother, Captain Mark Hale, was repatriated through Wootton Bassett in 2009. In June 2011, I decided to set up a project whereby the people and community of Wootton Bassett could work together to provide continued support to bereaved families and injured soldiers, as repatriations through the town were coming to an end, and Wootton Bassett Rocks! was born."

Here's a BBC news story about the project, including a clip of the single (if you can't watch, read more here):

From that clip, it reminds me a little bit of the American Idiot The Musical version of the song, which bodes well.

You can read more about the initiative's "mission" on the Wootton Bassett Rocks website. Follow regular updates on twitter @wbcharitysingle and 'like' the facebook page to help spread the word!

The single and video can be downloaded from 27th November on iTunes and other online retailers. We'll keep you updated as we approach the release, so please help get behind it.

On this day in particular, it's a great reminder of the people who have fought, and continue to fight, for their country's freedom.

Happy birthday, Jason White!

We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Green Day's touring guitarist and, I guess you could say, "unofficial" band member, Jason White! Jason turns 38 today. Welcome to your late 30's!

If you don't know much of Jason, take a look at our brief biography on the man himself. You can also check out another of his bands The Influents here.

Feel free to leave your comments and wishes in the comments.

You can also visit this thread on the forum to indulge in Jason White celebrations!

GreenDay.com post new photos from October's "Halloween Show" in New York

The official site has posted 18 new pictures from the surprise Halloween show at The Studio, Webster Hall, in New York last month.

They're pretty awesome, go check 'em out!

On another note, for those of you in the UK, Kerrang! TV (channel 368 on sky) is showing "Green Day: Evolution" at 10:30pm tonight:

"As part of Kerrang's Pop Punk Riot month, we chart the evolution of Green Day from their first to latest video!"

The channel is also showing something from the Awesome As Fuck DVD release, at 10pm. I don't think it's anything we haven't seen before, but it's on if you want to enrich your evening with a little more Green Day.

Thanks to @GreenDayMind and KMH on the forum for this news.

New Found Glory covers Green Day's "Basket Case" each night of their "Pop Punks Not Dead Tour"

It has been no secret that New Found Glory's latest release, Radiosurgery has been heavily influenced by Green Day and during the band's encore every night on their "Pop Punks Not Dead Tour" New Found Glory has covered Green Day's "Basket Case".

New Found Glory talking about how they listened to a lot of Green Day's older material and were greatly influenced by it when making their new album.

This isn't the first time that New Found Glory has shown their love of Green Day, back in 2008 New Found Glory played a whole set of Green Day songs at the Hoodwinked Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Top Five Green Day Moments I Missed

Lately the Green Day world has been abuzz with excitement over two secret shows featuring setlists abound with fresh material. I, on the other hand, have been bound down with school work, watching the lucky few recap all of the pleasures of a Green Day dominated existence. I decided to let my bitter feelings get the best of me and write up a top five list of the Green Day events that I have felt physical anguish over not being able to attend; a feeling with which most of you can relate, especially for those of us who are "snot-nosed slob[s] without job[s]" sustaining ourselves with Ramen in our dorm rooms for the school year.

5. Green Day 2005
Somewhere in Massachusetts, before they played Gillette Stadium, before Wake Me Up When September Ends was the anthem that had pop-radio lovers rushing stadiums across America, Green Day played a smaller-scale show that I was invited to, but I was thirteen and grounded. Way to go, Mom.

4. American Idiot in Berkeley
So, my favorite band makes a musical out of my favorite album... and it's in California. Ah, the days when we prayed for it to come to Broadway and were resigned to listening to bootlegs of opening night in the process.

3. Foxboro Hot Tubs Tour, Summer 2008
As a rising-senior in high school, there was no way I would have been able to travel to the west coast to see Green Day's garage-rock alter-ego the Foxboro Hot Tubs on their first (and potentially last) tour, but damn it if I didn't scheme. Stealing the family car and driving out by myself? Ah, if only I'd had the money and the balls.

2. Secret Show in Costa Mesa, CA
This is my most recent disappointment. As many of you may recall, I was the one to break the news about this - with no way of accessing it myself. Hell, I wrote a review of the new music I didn't get to listen to. C'est la vie, though, right? I'm sure they'll make their way to Boston someday.

1. St. Billie, September 2010
You know you're a Green Day fan when you read about the lead singer of your favorite band starring in a self-written rock opera on Broadway and you feel your stomach hit the floor with the realization that there's no way to get from New Hampshire to New York in time for the final performance, no matter how fast you drive nor how destitute your bank account becomes. Not being able to witness St. Billie during his first impromptu run this time last year may have come close to killing me - not so much from the anguish of a disenchanted fan, but from my former-roommate nearly strangling me when I dreamt about it and screamed out in my sleep.

Green Day "Warning" EP (Clear Yellow) available at Adeline Records

Adeline Records is selling a "sweet clear yellow" 7 inch vinyl of the album title track "Warning" for $5 at the moment. The tracks on the EP are: WarningScumbag, andOutsider.

You might remember back in May when Adeline released a limited pressing of "Minority" on clear vinyl, with all 200 of the 300 they had being snapped up very quickly!

Spin post footage of 6 of the new songs played at Green Day's recent shows

Spin.com have posted footage of 6 of the new songs Green Day have been playing in their 4 surprise intimate shows since August. "Carpe Diem" from the most recent show in San Francisco is featured, which we posted the video and our provisional lyrics to earlier this week. As well as the most recent show, they feature 4 songs from the Tiki Bar in August and the other is an earlier performance of "Stay The Night" from a soundcheck in Marlay Park, Dublin in 2010:

"Carpe Diem" - Mezzanine, San Francisco (Tuesday)
"Sweet 16" - Tiki Bar, Costa Mesa (August)
"Stray Heart" - Tiki Bar, Costa Mesa (August)
"Amy" - Tiki Bar, Costa Mesa (August)
"Last Gang In Town" - Tiki Bar, Costa Mesa (August)
"Stay The Night" - Marlay Park, Dublin (June 2010)

The article also gives a little description about each song, which you can see along with the 6 videos/audio here.

Great video of Green Day opening their set at The Mezzanine in San Francisco

Welcome to Paradise... indeed! Green Day opened their surprise set at The Mezzanine in San Francisco on Tuesday night with the Dookie classic, but not before Billie Joe took the time to explain Green Day's surprise appearance (for the surfer foundation). He started by saying "we woke up this morning and had no idea we were playing a show" and also apologized for putting out the "ugliest board short" ever. Is this the one he means?

Anyway, check out the video. There's a couple of minutes of entertaining banter with the crowd - and some important messages ;) before the band launch into a brilliant opening performance of "Welcome To Paradise":

Here's a video of the same performance, but from a closer angle with a few more seconds from the beginning, thanks to bobcat2cougar.

Surprise!!! No Green Day show last night!

After all the events of the last few days, it's a bit of a surprise that there wasn't another Green Day show last night! Well, maybe i'm getting a bit carried away, but it's exciting knowing that almost anything is possible at the moment. Major kudos to the band for the spontaneity of it all.

There's been so much going on, it's been a tricky time trying to keep up with all the updates from not only the show in San Francisco, but also the Halloween bonanza in NYC just last week. It gives us a chance to catch up on a few things from the 2 most recent shows...

First of all, here's a great video that has surfaced of "The Monster Mash" from the beginning of the Halloween show, featuring Billie Joe along with members of the America Idiot Musical on Broadway cast:

On to the San Francisco show on Tuesday night and here's a video of Billie Joe talking about the "99%" in response to some of the protests that have been taking place in Oakland this week.

A few more videos from the San Francisco show:

Paper LanternsHybrid Moments (Misfits cover)Know Your Enemy & Hitchin' a Ride.

Carpe Diem:

(Note: The lyrics may not be 100% accurate as they were worked out by ear, but we think they're very close)

"Breaking in a sweat
Like a bomb threat
Use your silhouette, faded out

Nothing left to lose
Detonate the fuse
Another break and you fall out

Getting off a binge
Get a second wind
Another promise, just make a change

Got a broken wing
Hear the angels sing
With a signal that's out of range

make a change, make a change

Carpe diem, a battle cry
are/aren't we all too young to die
Ask for reason, and no reply
are/aren't we all too young to die

Making a living
Making a killing
What's worth forgiving
A life/alive

And the other night
Barely scraping by
Dominated by passer-by's

Feeling out of luck
When the traffic's stuck
And you're feeling so left behind

Getting off a binge
Get a second wind
Another promise, just make a change

Got a broken wing
Hear the angels sing
With a signal that's out of range

any change any change

Carpe diem, a battle cry
aren't we all too young to die
Ask for reason, and no reply
aren't we all too young to die

Making a living
Making a killing
What's worth forgiving
A life/alive

Making a living
Making a killing
What's worth forgiving
A life/alive

Carpe diem, a battle cry
are/aren't we all too young to die
Ask for reason, and no reply
Aren't we all too young to die

Carpe diem, a battle cry
are/aren't we all too young to die
Ask for reason, and no reply
Are/aren't we all too young to die "
