Awesome as Fuck DVD will include "Cigarettes and Valentines" and "My Generation"

One of the things confirmed in the IdiotClub.com chat with Green Day's engineer Chris Dugan and Bill Schiender was that all versions of Awesome As Fuck will include "Cigarettes and Valentines" on the bonus DVD (we earlier thought it was just on the German version). Amazon.com has put up a scan of the back cover, which also confirms that "My Generation" will also be included, which was filmed in Tokyo but previously left off the DVD tracklist

I'm not 100% certain what version of "Cigarettes & Valentines" will be included, I just assumed it'd be the live version released last week, but...I guess we'll have to wait and see for sure.

Looks like Billie Joe and Lady Gaga are best friends now [Photo]

Billie Joe has a new friend. He attended the Lady Gaga concert in Madison Sqaure Garden a few nights ago, and sent the following tweets about it:

Live chat with Green Day's engineer, Chris Dugan, today at 3pm at IdiotClub.com

Today at 3pm Pacific (6pm EST) Green Day's engineer, videographer, photographer, and all-around cool dude, Chris Dugan, will be live chatting with Green Day fans at IdiotClub.com. 
You'll need to be a member to watch the interview and ask him questions. 

Chris has been working with the band since American Idiot (maybe before then? I'm not sure. Maybe he'll tell us during the interview...) and usually travels with the band everywhere they go, taking pictures and extra video footage which ends up being used on live releases, and his photos are posted regularly on GreenDay.com. He also works as an engineer at Green Day's studio (formerly called Studio 880, currently known asJingletown Recording).

I've renewed my Idiot Club to check out this live chat (plus the new Awesome As Fuck shirt is pretty ... awesome). We won't post the interview here, as that wouldn't be fair to the people who pay to be a part of the fan club - so if you want to check it out, be sure to be there just before 3pm Pacific. Here's hoping everything works and the Idiot Club will do more things like this in the future with other members of the band and crew.

A new trailer has been released for Green Day's upcoming live album Awesome As Fuck. I've got to say, this gets me very excited for the album. The songs sound great, the camera angles and shots look great as well, and the production of the trailer is fantastic. The video can be watched below.

First look video of Cigarettes and Valentines from "Awesome As Fuck"

Holy shit. How's that for a summary? The official Green Day YouTube channel posted up this video of "Cigarettes and Valentines" from the upcoming album/dvd 'Awesome As Fuck". This video has me way too excited, it's pretty damn amazing. 

You can pre-order the album now on Amazon and iTunes. And there's also a Blu-Ray version. Pre-ordering the digital versions will get you some bonus songs. Not sure what the deal is with this $105 Japanese import version.

"Awesome as Fuck" will be playing in cinemas a day before release in Germany

"Awesome As Fuck" will be playing in select cities in Germany March 17th, a day before it's release on March 18 (in Germany). The German company Cineplex has listed cinemas that will be participating. For more details visit the Cineplex.de website.
I think most of us now have our fingers crossed that more things like this will start popping up in other countries.

Green Day's YouTube channel gave us all a little Valentine's Day treat this morning when they posted a new video of "Cigarettes and Valentines." The video contains photos from the "Awesome As Fuck" DVD as well as the lyrics to "Cigarettes and Valentines." The video can be watched below.



I have compared the audio to the Phoenix performance and they sound the exact same. So this is the version which will be included on "Awesome As Fuck."

"Cigarettes and Valentines" is set to be premiered tonight on 1019 RXP

Earlier today DJ Rich Russo tweeted that tonight on his radio show he would be premiering Green Day's song "Cigarettes and Valentines." You can listen to the his show entitled "Anything, Anything" at 9:00pm EST on 1019 RXP. If you are not in the New York area you can listen to a stream of the show on 1019rxp.com. 


This is the message Rich Russo posted on Twitter.

"Cigarettes & Valentines Green Day, Valentine the Replacements, Valentine Massacre Cocktail Slippers and more 2nite 9pm www.1019rxp.com"

This will not be a studio version of the song, but rather a live version. I am assuming that it is the version that will be on Awesome as Fuck - but when Matt asked for clarification on Twitter, he was told they weren't sure where the version came from. 

Rich Russo was also the one who premiered the Green Day and Jesse Malin song "Depression Times". We will update this post with a recording of the song after it is played. 

Update 10:23pm EST: Rich Russo just played "Cigarettes and Valentines". It wasn't the performance that is going to be on the Awesome as Fuck live album, but rather from Irvine, California. You can listen to the audio from the performance below:

The American Idiot Original cast album has won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. This was announced within the past hour.

The cast album is composed by Green Day, and features lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong and the original Broadway Cast including John Gallagher, Jr., Michael Esper, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Mary Faber, Stark Sands & others. Best Musical Show Album is the Grammy Award to the Album Producer(s), and to the Lyricist(s) & Composer(s) of 51% or more of a new score."

Listen to audio from today's interview with Mike Dirnt and The Frustrators

Mike Dirnt and members of his side band, The Frustrators, sat down with KSRO radio to talk about their upcoming shows in the Bay Area. The interview lasts about 20 minutes and covers lots of ground. They talk about some early Green Day shows in the area, and Mike mentions that the Phoenix theater (where The Frustrators will be playing next week) is the last show John Kiffmeyer played with Green Day, after Tre had already joined the band. 

They also open up the interview (3 minutes into the audio below) with some Frustrators music. It was a pretty good interview - it's always nice to hear Mike spend some time chatting it up.

American Idiot musical organizing to start tour this fall

Green Day fans across the United States will finally get a chance to see the musical, even if they can't make it to New York to see the production. An announcement this morning on Playbill.com mentioned a casting call that announces that rehearsals will start this summer and the tour expected to start in the fall. 

There are no dates or cities announced yet - and for our international visitors, no announcement (yet) about whether the show will travel overseas at some point. But this is a good start, at least there's a possibility for more Green Day fans to check out the show. 

For those interested, here's the casting call. Auditions taking place in New York City on February 24th, 25th and 28th.
